In the crow's nest Lookouts Fleet and Lee stared into the darkness. It had been a quiet watch so far. They had seen nothing. But around 11:30 the horizon directly ahead seemed to develop a slight haze. Fleet casually remarked to Lee about this, although he had decided it was hardly worth mentioning.
