On September 15, 1963, Carole Robertson, Cynthia Wesley, Addie Mae Collins and Denise McNair died while attending Sunday school when the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church was bombed. Nineteen people were injured, and a Black teen was killed by the Birmingham police in the disturbance that followed the bombing. I was nine years old at the time.
